Today would have been Orion Finn’s first birthday, but there was a tragic car accident and we lost him at only five weeks old. Grief is truly part of the human experience and, while I am confident God is right there beside us as we cry, I have difficulty understanding God’s design when I am hurting. Job’s experience is a great reminder that knowing what God is doing isn’t nearly as important as knowing God. It truly is a faith step to grasp His hand when I want to shout like a child, “You’ve messed everything up!” I miss Orion.
I miss watching him grow up, making him belly laugh at silly sounds and holding him while he naps. I won’t get to teach him his colors, tease him that elephants are kittens, or sing silly songs. I could talk more about what will never be, but it makes my heart hurt. Instead, I will cling to what I know is true:
