Struggling Lane County youth lost an invaluable advocate Monday when one of my supervisors, John Crumbley, died. A variety of thoughts have run through my mind over the last few days however the constant has been a thankfulness that I have been influenced deeply by John’s training and his passion to help hurting youth.

I wish I could be more eloquent but I’m just too sad. I really wanted to contact John six months after my graduation to share how what he taught me showed up in my work. I hate that I’ve lost that little celebration with him.

Again, I’m so thankful that he was my supervisor! It is an honor to have been influenced by this incredible man of God. Let’s hear it for “hard-headed optimism!”^[1]
